One Vase, Four Seasons

Late Summer

Late summer in San Diego still feels very much like high summer this week, but there are little signs that the season is beginning to shift.

Sometimes, a little fresh greenery and a pop of color are all you need to brighten the table - whether you're preparing for an unexpected guest or simply want to brighten your own day.

With summer flowers becoming a little harder to find, we looked for inspiration growing right outside the door: branches from our Mexican guava tree, a few purple salvia blooms, fresh mint, and lemons.

The Vase-Within-a-Vase Trick

The secret to this centerpiece is actually another vase.

Place a smaller, narrow vase inside a larger clear glass cylinder. The inner vase holds the water and your stems, while the space between the two vases can be filled with seasonal elements.

For our late-summer arrangement, we tucked whole lemons and fresh mint around the inner vase. The lemons become part of the centerpiece while remaining separate from the flower water.

It's an easy trick, but it completely transforms a simple glass vase.

From the Garden

For this late-summer arrangement, we used:

  • Branches from a Mexican guava tree
  • Purple salvia blooms
  • Fresh mint
  • Whole lemons

Don't worry about recreating the arrangement exactly. Take a walk through your own garden or see what's available at the market. A few interesting branches, herbs, flowers, or seasonal fruits may be all you need.

One Vase, Four Seasons

What we especially love about this idea is how easily it can change throughout the year.

As late summer gives way to autumn, the flowers, greenery, and even the ingredients surrounding the inner vase can change with it. Then we'll reinvent it again for winter and spring.

Same vase. Completely different table.

We'll share each arrangement as the seasons change.

One vase. Four seasons. A new table with each one.

🌿 Gather. Savor. Celebrate.
